In the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, painters sought models for their paintings both among the nobility and among ordinary people they met on the street, at the market or in church. Paintings painted at that time mainly referred to religious themes, which is why the saints on them have the faces of bakers, tradeswomen, servants or princes. In my project, I decided to use a similar method – my saints are people we can meet on the streets of today’s cities. If Leonardo da Vinci painted his paintings in the 21st century, modern saints would have such faces in his paintings.
